Massive Data Breach at Dublin and Cork Airports Exposes Millions of Passengers
🎙️ Paranoid Newscast
A significant data breach has been confirmed at Dublin and Cork Airports, potentially affecting millions of passengers. The breach occurred when a file containing boarding information was exposed online by a cyber-criminal group. Dublin Airport handled a record-breaking 3.8 million passengers, with over 376,000 passing through Cork Airport as well.
While the exact number of affected passengers remains unclear, intelligence gathered on October 17 indicated that the compromised file was exposed online, with a sample of the data released. The breach has been linked to a third-party supplier, Collins Aerospace, and daa has informed regulators like the Data Protection Commission (DPC), Irish Aviation Authority, and National Cyber Centre.
Passengers who traveled in August need not take immediate action but are advised to remain alert for unusual activities concerning their bookings. Meanwhile, airlines have started reaching out to affected travelers. This breach follows a security incident in September when Dublin Airport was evacuated due to a suspicious bag, underscoring the growing risks of cyber-attacks in the aviation sector.
